What can Coaching do for you?

change

(back to self development stuff')

A personal or life coach will help you identify what you really want in life, maximising your natural strengths and helping you to consider how to achieve a sense of clarity and purpose leading to a happy, prosperous and fulfilled life.   Effective coaching is an empowering process which allows you to bring change into your life by choosing your own achievable goals and reaching them faster and easier than you can on your own. Coaching can be applied to personal and professional life and can often lead to a more rewarding career or life path as well as increased confidence and better relationships.

A coach will help you to understand yourself and consider using more resourceful behaviours in order to achieve the goals that you set providing you with self-assurance, support, confidence, and motivation.  Techniques to help facilitate change usually include goal setting, NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and cognitive behavioural techniques.

What makes a good coach?

A good coach will also give you the guidance, encouragement and techniques to help you to map and reflect on your progress which will also improve self esteem and confidence issues.

Coaching can be ongoing or short-term depending on the individual.  It can take place either face to face,  by telephone or skype on a weekly or fortnightly basis over a set period of time.  A good coach will usually set an objective for each coaching session and although new goals may be identified leading to further coaching, progress should always be recorded to show achievement towards the ultimate aim of self development  -this will lead to life enhancement and a happy and successful future.

Sir John Whitmore introduced the well respected and widely used concept of the GROW model which is so simple yet powerful and effective.  GROW allows us to follow a process which produces all the necessary ingredients required for a coaching experience and is used globally as a coaching model.

G – goal – what is the goal or required end result?

R – reality – what is the current reality or situation?

O – Options – are there any options, if so, what are they?

W –  what, where, when and how will you take the action that you need to move forward?
