What does your Ideal life look like?

How much do you allow yourself to dream? Dreams are thoughts and thoughts create reality. Everything that exists started off as a thought (think of an architect's plans for a house or a composer creating a piece of music). If you allowed yourself time to think about how your Ideal Life would look, do you think you would you be surprised at what you create? |
Create your own Wheel of Life
Imagine or draw a circle divided into various different segments. Each segment represents an important part of your life: Relationships, Work / career, finances, family, social / hobbies, helping others, health & fitness

Think about each category and how you feel about it at the moment - give yourself a satisfaction score out of 10. So for instance, if you feel your current relationship is giving you everything you ever dreamed of and has no room for improvement, give this category 10 out of 10. If you feel however, that you make too many compromises in your relationship or that you are not listened to, adjust your score accordingly. |
When you have marked each area as honestly as possible, reflect on the results and ask yourself whether you are happy with them. Imagine how your life would look if you decided to improve on just one of those areas. This gives you a useful template to work from.
Now start to think about Your Ideal Life
Not many of us actually sit down and picture in detail what our ideal life might look like. To create a true image in your mind, examine the Wheel of Life and explore every area in finite detail.
Has your career gone a bit stale and needs a kick start? Your work / career often fills a large part of your life and taking a fresh perspective can help you to realise that you may be settling for second best and not realising your full potential.
How fulfilled do you feel? Have you made enough space in your life to help others? Helping others is two-fold - you dont just get to make a difference in people's lives - helping others can help you develop as a person, learning things about yourself and giving you a sense of purpose - you can work as a volunteer doing something that you really love without the pressure of being a paid employee - this can be immensely rewarding. Using the template of categories you can start to put down on paper how you would like each area of your life to look, including any areas for improvement.
Banish Limiting beliefs
Look at your Ideal life as if there were no barriers whatsoever to achieving what you would like - no financial barriers (this is hard at first), no barriers to your confidence or to opportunities, no barriers to your skill level or experience, no barriers to the support network you have or the way you look and feel about yourself.
- What do you look like?
- How do you feel about yourself?
- How would you spend your days?
- What would you be excelling at?
- Where would you be finding the most joy?
- Where would you live?
- Who would you be living with?
Now Imagine your Perfect day
- How would you spend most of your time?
- What would you be saying?
- Who would you be speaking to?
- How would you be feeling?
- Where would you be working?
- Where would you be playing and finding your joy?

Find your Joy Finding your Joy means thinking about all the things you have done in your life that have made you feel positive about yourself What have you found you could do for hours and lose track completely of time while doing it? When you do this thing, do you feel 'in the flow' as if it feels totally natural?. What would you really like to do and what do you feel are the barriers against doing it? Write down the barriers and think about them - are you surprised at what you have discovered? |
Now lift the ceiling on your dreams.....
If you were to win the lottery, what would your life look like then?
Where would you live, what would you wear, what car would you drive, what would you spend your time doing, how would you help others (just imagine what you could do with no barriers!)?
This little exercise can really open up your mind - there may be things that you would never have thought about before, hopes and dreams that may never have considered.
Your Top 5 Goals
Take a look at everything you have written down or thought about - identify your top 5 goals at the moment, breaking them down to long and short term goals - how does that look? How do you feel now? What can you do now that you have this information?
Would this new life bring you peace, joy and fulfillment?
Would it bring you wealth and contentment?. Success often comes from doing something that you excel at. Have you uncovered what your passion is? Once you have found your passion, follow it (with a passion!!)
